BACKGROUND:
Kemp Communications production partners are veterans of many years in
TV news, as both reporters and photographers. Over the years in the news business,
producing stories against tight deadlines on a daily basis helped develop the skills that
we bring to production of videos for our clients.
STYLE:
Our videos are produced to the highest standards in all aspects:
scripts, photography, and editing. Our style is typically quasi-news, meaning
straightforward storytelling, lots of interviews, and often on-camera segments by
the videos host/narrator.
TECHNICAL INFORMATION:
We shoot in the broadcast-quality DV Cam and Betacam SP
formats, and edit on Apple’s phenomenal Final Cut digital nonlinear system.
SPECIFIC SKILLS:
Our skills include a fundamental understanding of
the medium of video--of the unique power that comes from the right combination of visual
images, words, and, when and if appropriate, music. Working for years in television news
also taught us how to put people at ease so that the very best on-camera interviews can be
accomplished. This is of special importance because interviews often make or break a
video.
RAPID TURNAROUND:
Another of these skills is understanding how to produce a high
quality video product under extreme deadline conditions. In TV news, our daily challenge
was to produce accurate, balanced--and interesting--stories under virtually impossible
deadlines. Today, when the project demands it, we use those same skills to deliver
superior productions on the tightest of timelines. Example: we produced a high quality,
nationally-distributed video news release for Nintendo in less than one day.
THE PROCESS OF MAKING A VIDEO:
We work closely with our clients from start to finish on their video
projects. Our involvement typically begins in the conceptual stage of a video, when we
work to help the client define their vision for their video, working to help them figure
out who their audience is, and what it is they want their video to accomplish. Next, we
help identify and then refine the key messages for the video. Following this, we produce a
draft script. Once the final version of the script has been approved, it becomes the
blueprint for planning the logistics of the shoot. Next comes the shoot itself, and,
finally, post-production.
THE RESULT:
Our goal is to produce superior quality videos each and every time.
Specifically, a video of superior quality cant just be one that looks
great--its got to also have functional value. In other words, its got to be
designed and produced so that it accomplishes the results that were envisioned at the
start of the project.
